I've been hooked on strength training since my first basketball strength and conditioning coach got me in the weight room at 13. I love how having a strong body translates into a calm and strong mind, and I’m proof positive that you can take full control of your own health. In my first year as a junior high school English teacher I was working 12 hour days, was "too tired" to exercise, barely slept, was carrying around 20 extra pounds, and was completely overwhelmed by stress. I was miserable and I felt physically bad. I wasn't shocked when I learned that I had high blood pressure at 23 years old. That was the wake-up call I needed to rededicate myself to a health and fitness regimen, and filling my high blood pressure prescription was the moment that would propel me into the fitness industry. The power that I felt when I took back my own health is exactly what I want all of my clients to experience. It’ll change your life.
Fitness is my sport. In addition to my love for weight training, I enjoy the energy I get from group fitness classes like spinning, boxing, yoga, and I enjoy training for distance running races. I love variety in my workouts, and it’s something I bring with me into my programming. Our muscles crave variety, but so do our brains.
When I’m not in the gym I’m reading young adult literature with a dog on my lap. If you want to talk out about post-apocalyptic, dystopian society novels with a female teenage protagonist, I’m your girl. You’ll also find me walking my bad dogs around Lake Harriet.
My husband and I travel internationally as much as we can, and in fact, my BodyPump addiction started when I lived in Bangalore, India. I love cooking and puttering around in my garden. We really enjoy the restaurant scene here in Minneapolis and I’m always up for trying a new spot or a new recipe.
